I didn’t take “wasn’t optimistic it could be done” for an answer.

A sincere thank you to all of our followers. This is an impressive milestone for a show that only lasted three seasons and went off the air six years ago. It’s a testament to the brilliance of the writers, actors, producers, directors, and crew who created it.

Let’s see if we can hit a quarter million before Season 4 starts! Long live Arrested Development. –@bluthquotes

Update from Dean Lorey

Dean Lorey, an Arrested Development writer and co-executive producer, provided an update to the new season on his blog recently.

We’re really doing this thing. Mitch Hurwitz, Jim Vallely and I are off writing the new season of ARRESTED to premiere on Netflix in 2013. The original cast is back

Stay tuned for additional updates as they become available.

What Arrested Development could mean for Netflix’s business

Ashkan Karbasfrooshan wrote an interesting article last week that I’m just now seeing, analyzing whether Arrested Development will be a money winner or loser for Netflix.

There are still a number of unanswered questions in my mind.

  1. Where will people outside of the US and Canada be able to see the new season?
  2. What metric will be used to determine whether the season is a success? The number of new subscriptions for Netflix? Episode viewership?
  3. Once the metric is determined, what numbers would season 4 need to hit?
  4. Will there be commercials?
  5. If the season is considered a success, would they consider a season 5, or still do the movie?

What else?

Five Things the New Arrested Development Should Do to Stay Great

Jonathan Weed over at Nerve has suggestions on five things the new Arrested Development should do to stay great. I won’t comment point-by-point, but I don’t think we were in danger of any of these things happening. Besides, we have a 9-10 episode season to get through first, anyway.

Netflix revives a cult classic

Sooner or later, you knew that Netflix (NFLX) would stop doing stupid things.

I was an early adopter of Netflix and am generally a big fan of the service. Their recent moves — hiking up the price and the aborted attempt to create Qwikster — have eroded a lot of the goodwill the company had banked. I’m still hoping they can turn it back around, and signing a deal to bring back Arrested Development is a huge step in doing that.

Fox and Netflix team up to bring back Arrested Development

Netflix announced today that all new episodes of Arrested Development will be coming to Netflix streaming in the US beginning in 2013. This follows up news from The New Yorker Festival at the beginning of October that Arrested Development would return for a 9 to 10 episode run prior to a movie.

The whole text of today’s press release is on Netflix’s PR site.

From @jtvo, “those are blue, too!”:

From @kevinpnye, I don’t… even…:

From @kla2222, with bonus points for the shirt:

From @lizzieiv, who doesn’t seem 100% committed to the role of Never-Nude but otherwise does a decent job:

From @shaundelacy, who is probably the most comfortable of the people shown here:

From @thisisveganblog, who sent in a picture of some shorts:

From @tsaidwhat, who partially blue himself:

The great Henry Winkler

The great Henry Winkler.

Henry Winkler
(Found on reddit).

For the youngsters, Henry Winkler a/k/a Barry Zuckerkorn was on a TV show called Happy Days that aired from 1974-1984. He played a character named Arthur ‘Fonzie’ Fonzarelli who, at one point, jumps over a shark (though, presumably, not while on his way to Burger King).
